It is well researched and documented that despite the high impact SME’s have on economic development as demonstrated by their contribution to GDP (34%), many SME’s suffer early mortality. Contributory factors include lack of financing, competitive landscape, regulatory, infrastructure and generally poor management skills.

However, whilst several interventions have been tried that focus primarily on capacity building through training courses and curated advisory services, there is no evidence that these interventions have created the impact to improve the mortality rate and drive the economy engine. We as SLS believe that by addressing the fundamentals of good governance with respect to financial record keeping, will invigorate the sustainability of the SME’s especially at Micro, Small and Medium where the largest segment of the pyramid lies.
